Print Publication Design

The client:
Brunswick Design District x RMIT
The brief:
Working as a group, the brief was to successfully crowdfund a publication about our connection to Brunswick alongside the Brunswick Design District. Each designer was to contribute two double page spreads in any style.

My goal and process: I used my own photography of a classic Brunswick apartment to create an illustration that touched on the idea of being half in and half out of Brunswick. I wanted to feature the beautiful wallpaper and chandeliers that are hidden behind unassuming facades in the suburb.

I incorporated textures and surfaces of furnishings and views from the apartment with varying levels of subtlety, to give both an immediate effect and something to keep drawing the viewer back in to discover more. I used a soft colour palette to create a dreamy effect, pulling from nostalgia of vintage photography and to emphasis the surreal quality of the illustration.
